Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how MausamNow ("MausamNow", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website (mausamnow.com) and our mobile applications for iOS and Android (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

1. Who we are & how to contact us

MausamNow is a free weather service operated by an independent developer based in Pune, India. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@mausamnow.com.

2. Information we collect

We collect the following, and nothing more:

a) Location — only with your permission

When you allow it, the Service uses your device's GPS, or a place you search for, to fetch the forecast for that spot. We never track your location in the background — it is used only while the app is open and you have asked for local weather. We do not store your precise GPS history on our servers.

b) Approximate location from your IP address

Like all websites, our servers receive your IP address with each request. We may derive a coarse, city-level location from it to suggest a default city. We do not use your IP address to track you across sites.

c) Preferences stored on your device

Your theme choice and last-selected location are stored locally on your device (browser localStorage / app storage). They remain on your device.

d) Anonymous app identifier (mobile apps only)

The apps generate a random identifier the first time they run, stored on your device. It lets us count how many people use the app (daily and monthly active users) without knowing who you are. It is not linked to your name, email, device advertising ID, or precise location, and it is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data.

e) Usage and device data (anonymous analytics)

We collect aggregate, anonymous information about how the Service is used — for example which pages are viewed, general device and browser type, and error logs — to fix bugs and improve the product. This is first-party only: we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking technologies, and we do not build advertising profiles.

What we do not collect: your name, email (unless you email us), phone number, contacts, photos, account credentials (there are no accounts), device advertising identifiers, or background-location data.

3. How we use information

• To show you weather, air quality, and forecasts for your chosen location.
• To operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service.
• To understand overall usage in aggregate (how many people use which features).
• To comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.

4. Legal bases (for users in the EEA / UK)

• Consent — for accessing your device location. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device or browser settings.
• Legitimate interests — for security, debugging, and anonymous aggregate analytics that help us run and improve the Service.

5. How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as needed to run the Service:

• Weather data providers — to produce a forecast, the location coordinates you choose are sent to upstream weather sources and models (for example the India Meteorological Department (IMD), MOSDAC / ISRO, and open forecast APIs). These requests are for weather data and are not tied to your identity.
• Infrastructure providers — our website and APIs are served via Cloudflare, which processes requests (including IP addresses) to deliver and protect the Service.
• App stores — the Apple App Store and Google Play distribute the apps and provide us anonymous, aggregate install and usage statistics under their own privacy policies.
• Legal reasons — we may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
• Business transfer — if MausamNow is ever transferred to another operator, information may be transferred as part of that change, subject to this Policy.

6. Data retention

• Location coordinates are used to answer a request and are not retained as personal data afterwards.
• Server and security logs are kept only for a short period for debugging and abuse prevention, then deleted or anonymized.
• The anonymous app identifier remains until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
• Aggregate, anonymized statistics may be kept indefinitely, as they no longer identify you.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data.

8. International data transfers

We operate from India and use globally distributed infrastructure (for example Cloudflare's network). Your information may be processed on servers outside your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

9. Children's privacy

MausamNow is a general-audience weather service and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live — including under the EU / UK GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. In practice:

• Location: grant or revoke it at any time in your device or browser settings.
• Preferences & app identifier: clear them at any time by clearing the app's data or your browser storage, or by uninstalling the app.
• Requests: email privacy@mausamnow.com and we will respond as required by applicable law.

Because we do not maintain user accounts and store minimal personal data, we may be unable to identify you from a request alone.

11. Notifications

Version 1.0 of the apps does not send push notifications. If we add optional weather alerts in a future version, they will be opt-in, and this Policy will be updated to describe them.

12. Third-party links

The Service links to third-party sites (such as the IMD). We are not responsible for their privacy practices; please review their policies.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes we will provide a more prominent notice in the app or on the website. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.

14. Governing law

This Policy is governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
